My new to me loom

I've had a Guild folding floor loom for about 18 months but was finding it quite unstable (and noisy) during weaving due to the folding part of it.(top)

A wonderful lady, Welmoed has given me this glimakra Ideal floor loom and its brilliant! (bottom) It went together really easily - the photo's she took before taking it apart helped no end and she was kind enough to mark up all the connecting points too.

As you can see it has a project on it, something that should have been finished in time for christmas but after the nasty flu bug everything got behind...

I don't have a lot of space around the loom but it does work and I can get all round the loom if I need to with a bit of a squeese.

Of course I now have a "spare" loom but I can see this getting some use in the future as I have been teaching basic weaving (bookmarks on cardboard looms) to some 5/6yr olds at my sons school. I will be going in over the next couple of weeks to do some tie dyeing with some yr 3 children. We will be dyeing the cotton cloth and then they will be making a t shirt for teddy bears with the cloth.

They are studying saxons at the moment and so we will look at some basic natural dyes after the half term break. Watching the children get inspired is so good and they are realy enjoying the weaving we have done so far, I get asked by children in other classes when they will get a turn. I wish my health was better and I could go in more often but I'm limited to a maximum of a couple of hours a week.

Most of my learning comes from the online guild - http://www.onlineguildwsd.org.uk/ for an annual subscription we have workshops about 8 months of the year and as someone who can't manage real life workshops its an excellent way of learning. We also have lots of discussions on a yahoo group and its excellent to be able to ask knowledgeable people questions!

Off to get the small noisy one to bed!
