Christmas Weaving

Well, I finished the scarf for Jane's christmas present and its only the 28th December!

The warp and weft are handpainted sock wool, 400yds per 100g set at 12 epi in plain weave. It was dyed using acid dyes by painting, wrapping in cling film and steaming. It was rinsed using synthranol after complete take up of the dye. I also dyed some yarn for a hat to match for Sylvia, which was lightly spun wool plyed with cotton. The cotton dyed paler than the wool but it looked really good after sylvia knitted it up.

Techincal details
164 warp threads 13.6" in the reed set at 12 epi

Off loom size
9" wide x 92" inc fringes, 76" without

Washed
8 3/4" x 86" in fringes, 71" without

Thoughts
I didn't expect too much shrinkage as the yarn had already been acid dyed and steamed. The yarn didn't full as it is superwash sock wool but the yarn did relax into the weave quite well and it really softened up after a good wash and steam press.

I just hope she likes it now!
